Virgil "Sunny" Julian, owner of Eco-Energia and 1945 graduate of Northeast High School, donated a solar panel system to Nueva Vida Church, 141 N. Lawndale Ave. Cost of the solar panel system and installation totaled about $100,000, but Eco-Energia's "Community Connection Program" footed the bill. "It feels good to give back," said Julian. "I decided that years ago in my life, my function for being here on earth was to make it easier for other people."
The Southeast High School Class of ’78 is celebrating its 35th reunion the weekend of July 18-21, 2013. Activities include a BBQ Party, open mic night, tour of Southeast Museum, KC Royals game and fellowship service. The cost is $65, but early bird registration is now open for $55 through May 4th. After May 4th, the cost increases to $65 and to $78 after June 30th.
Walt Bodine, locally acclaimed broadcaster, died on Sunday, March 24, 2013. He was 92 years old. Bodine attended Longfellow Elementary and Westport High schools.
