LINC - After School Program is available to all students
Local Investment Commission (LINC) serves our students after school. Many need to have care while their parents finish the work day. Our program is especially unique due to our LINC staff. They provide a healthy snack and a variety of educational and fun activities. They provide experiences in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. The staff has been trained in gardening allowing them to teach students about fresh fruits and vegetables. They have grown their own turnip greens, tomatoes, squash, and lettuce. The students enjoy eating the food they have planted and grown. We always look forward to LINC's next idea!
Calvary Temple Upper Room Reading Program
Our neighborhood church, Calvery Temple is hosting an afterschool program for Longfellow Students. Swope Corridor Renaissance in conjunction with the Kansas City Public Schools is offering to tutor using the researched based Accelerated Reader Program.
Volunteers for Achievement
Longfellow School is working with Hallmark and Children's Mercy Hospital to give our students an opportunity to meet and establish relationships with professional adults. The volunteers visit the children once a week for lunch time. Some work on academics together as well as play games and simply get to know one another. All students look forward to their special time with their "Study Buddy". We have two Volunteers who have "adopted" a classroom. They visit once a week and help by reading stories or assisting the teacher. Longfellow is fortunate to have these special adults involved with our school and students.
