KCPS offers a variety of early learning options for our rich multi-cultural and multi-ethnic population. As the first district program, created in 1965, Head Start is among the most successful, longest-running, national school readiness programs in the United States. It provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low income children and their families. The Missouri Preschool Project provides a research-based curriculum for those entering kindergarten the following fall. The Hale Cook Program encompasses a combination of learning and play making learning exciting and relevant for every child. KCPS also offers two signature schools featuring a Pre-K Montessori Program following the model of children taking responsibility for much of their own education to highlight their uniqueness. Parents as Teachers is a parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten.
